Conrad Hilton was born in San Antonio to Gus and Mary Hilton. While he served in World War I, his father was killed. He purchased his first hotel upon returning from the war at the age of 32 and eventually became a billionaire. He married Zsa Zsa Gabor in his late 50s, but they divorced four years later. It is hard to tell from Encyclopedia entries about him if he ever loved her, or if it was just because her name was Zsa Zsa and she was a great arresting beauty. They had one girl, named Constance. As he was dying of some sickness or another, at the ripe age of 91, he was asked if he had any wisdom to pass. Yes, he said, leave the shower curtain on the inside of the tub. Those were his final words.
There’s something like 4 or 5 million hotel rooms in the U.S. Without this piece of advice, that’s a lot of wet bathroom floors for maids to clean up. He’s buried in Texas.
